Former Riverside Cyclone, Dylan Poirier Achieving Success In Track

In track and field most athletes find one or two events and focus on those but for some they possession the athleticism and work ethic to compete all-around in several competitions and those athletes compete in the decathlon and heptathlon.

Former Riverside Cyclone, Dylan Poirier found when he made it to college to compete in track and field that he could be one of those athletes to compete in the decathlon and heptathlon and find success doing so. Poirier now at senior at the University of Kansas most recently in the Outdoor track season competed at the KU Relays and took third place out of 15 competitors in the decathlon. The former Cyclone won the pole vault and 110 meter hurdles of the ten events he competed in to amass the third most points of the 15 competitors. The other eight events in the decathlon include 100 meter dash, long jump, shot put, high jump, 400 meter dash, discus, javelin and 1500 meter run.

Dylan has ranked up several Top notch performances in his senior campaign with KU track registering a fifth place finish in the pole vault at the 38th Sun Angel Classic at Arizona State in the Outdoor season, while in the Indoor season posting several Top five finishes in the pole vault also. At the Big 12 Championship during the Indoor track season Poirier finished fifth at heptathlon.

In his first year at KU his junior season of competition he registered sixth place finishes in the decathlon and heptathlon at the Big 12 Championship Outdoor and Indoor competitions. Before coming to KU Poirier enjoyed success at Iowa Western Community College earning All-American status twice in the decathlon and pole vault, while as a sophomore finishing as NJCAA national runner-up in the decathlon.

As a Riverside Cyclone Poirier capped his high school career in impressive fashion winning the Class 3A pole vault title and also earned fifth in the 300 meter hurdles in 2012.

Poirier looks to finish his college athletic career strong and strive to continue to post top notch performances at KU.
