Centralia Boys Track Team

On your mark, get set, go!! The Centralia Panthers leapt, tossed, vaulted and ran their way to the school’s fourth State title this year and second boys track team State title, winning the 1A title behind 11 top eight performances.
Seven guys set out to compete in at least one event for the Panthers at the 2014 Kansas high school State track and field competition and Centralia amassed 51 points to claim the State title by 2.5 points. The group of Sam Steinlage, Brett Burdiek, JT Rosine, Cody Huerter, Darrian Turner, Joey Ferron and Wyatt VanDorn helped Centralia claim the boys State track title for the second time in school, the first time being back in 2011.
Turner came home with the most medals of the seven guys competing in three individuals events and being part of the 4x100 meter relay team. Darrian leapt his way to a second place finish in the long jump behind a leap of 20’10.75, while taking fifth and seventh in the 200 and 100 meter dashes, respectively with times of 22.91 and 11.61.
In the 4x100 meter relay, Turner teamed up with VanDorn, Rosine and Burdiek to race to a time of 44.44 taking second place.
Cody Huerter, also brought home a silver medal home for the Panthers claiming the second place in the pole vault competition with a vault of 13’06, while Joey Ferron place fifth in the shot put with a toss of 46’01.
Burdiek added to his medal in the relay with a fifth place in the 110 meter hurdles (15.86) and eighth place in the high jump (6’00). While, Sam Steinlage picked up three medals for the Panthers earning a fourth, fifth and sixth place finish in the triple jump (42’02), long jump (20’05) and discus (145’05).
The Panthers were on the prowl in Wichita and they pounced on more hardware in athletics to adding to the prestige of a school that has plenty of trophies already in the cases. Centralia boy’s by winning the State track title finished the year with four State titles for the school in boys track, boys golf, football and volleyball.
