The Hiawatha Redhawks football team has enjoyed a successful football season thus far working to a 5-2 record and 1-0 in district play after a 55-20 win in the Brown County Brawl with Horton this past Friday.

A big part of the success for the Redhawks this season has been the performances of the Chilcoat brothers, Brad and Denzel who piled up the stats this season and burst out for a great game against Horton on Friday.

Redhawk quarterback, Brad Chilcoat threw for 255 yards on the night on 7-16 passing for three touchdown's, one week after missing a game due to a rib injury. Most of Brad's passing yardage went to someone he's quite familiar with that being his brother, Denzel Chilcoat who caught three of Brad's seven completions for 176 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for 55 yards and other score on five carries.

The Chilcoat connection had a flare for big plays against Horton with the touchdown passes fro Brad to Denzel going for 85 and 71 yards. To top the whole night off for the Chilcoat brothers it was senior night for the Redhawks and the two senior brothers shined on the field.

The big plays haven't just came by both Chilcoat's in just one game as they have been a highlight reel for the Redhawks this season.

Brad, has compiled a season a at quarterback for the Redhawks that is record breaking as he now holds the record for most passing yards in a single season with two game remaining and only playing in six of the seven Redhawk games. He's completed 75-123 (61%) passes for 1,153 yards in six games, tossing 14 touchdowns. Redhawk quarterback is averaging 192 ypg passing, while he's rushed for 70 yards this season, also.

His brother, Denzel has been the recipient of 19 completions this season for 443 yards and four scores, while rushing for 378 yards on 30 carries and four more scores. Denzel has the flare and speed for big plays has was showcased with his touchdown catches on Friday against Horton, but he's showed that playmaking capability all season averaging 23 yards per catch and 12.6 yards per carry.

The brothers not only create a dynamic connection on offense but setup in the defense backfield together, also as both guys play safety.

Hiawatha got off to a 3-0 start this year, their best start since 2005. Redhawks made the playoffs last season in Class 4A and with the move down to Class 3A they look to make the playoffs again, as they focus on the two remaining district games this season against Riverside and Sabetha both on the road. The Chilcoat connection will be relied upon to help the Redhawks soar to a playoff spot.
