Falls City Sacred Heart Irish, Abby Magdanz Helping Team to Strong Season

The Falls Sacred Heart Irish ladies have enjoyed a strong season to the tune of a 22-2 record, current 17-game winning streak and the #1 ranking in D2 in Nebraska.

The Irish closed out the season in a span of seven days from February 6th to the 12th picking up four wins and the play of senior, Abby Magdanz helped lead the charge in all four victories and this season. Back on the 6th the Irish squared off with Diller-Odell in the Pioneer Conference tournament Semifinals and picked up the 46-29 win, a game in which Abby posted 11 points, five assists and five rebounds. Magdanz followed that up with a 13 point, five rebound and 5 assist performance in the tournament Championship, as the Irish avenged one of their two losses on the year beating Friend 55-38.

To wrap up the regular season Falls City Sacred Heart took on a team from Missouri and Kansas and just like they have all season continued to win. The Irish downed North Andrew (MO) winning 67-50 and Abby notched 23 points, going 5-6 from three-point range, while adding two rebounds, three assists and three steals. To finish off the regular season the Irish picked up the 55-20 over Doniphan West and Magdanz set the single season record for Falls City Sacred Heart for most three-pointers made. Abby finished with 24 points, including six three-pointers (6-9) breaking her own record with 58 three-pointers in a single season. She added two rebounds, three assists and two steals to her stat line against Doniphan West.

Magdanz has been a steady hand and reliable player for the Irish all season averaging 13ppg, shooting 43.3% from three-point range and 70% from the free throw line. But she not only has been great in her senior year, but all four years for the Irish starting 108 straight varsity games, which equals all varsity games over her four year career and has shot 39.5% for her career from three-point range.  

The Irish have their sights set on making a postseason run and that starts Tuesday’s with Sub-District action against Parkview Christian.
