The start gun has fired off and track season is under way in Nebraska and it was a strong start to the season for the Falls City Sacred Heart Irish as they captured the team title at the Pioneer Conference meet at Doane College last Thursday.
Helping lead the charge was senior, Sawyer Kean who put together a strong individual day coming home with three first place medals and a second place.
Kean leapt his way to victory in the long jump posting a leap of 19'11 to claim the gold, while on the track posted a time of 7.3 seconds to win the 60 meter dash, winning by two-tenths of a second. The other first place finish came in the 4x400 meter relay as Kean partnered up with three other Irish track stars and ran the first leg in what proved to be the best time giving the Irish a first place finish in the 4x400.
The Irish senior missed out on another first place finish on the day by a slim margin in the 200 meter dash posting a time of 24.6 to earn second, being just edged by his teammate.
Behind the performances of Kean and his teammates the Irish posted 109 total points at the meet and took first place as a team in the boy's competition as the second place team finished with 82 points.
