Back to the State tournament for the first time since 2011 the Valley Falls Dragon softball team has enjoyed a great year and look to continue it at the 2-1A State tournament in Pratt.
A big piece of the success for the Dragons this season has been the play of sophomore, Allison Kearney who has done a little bit of everything for the team this year.
After a first round in Regionals the Dragons took on Wabaunsee in the Semifinals and secure the 13-2 win in five innings with Kearney dominating the game. At the plate Kearney was an absolute monster going 4-4 with three home runs and eight RBI’s, but her impact on the game didn’t stop there as she pitched all five innings for the win in the circle. Kearney surrendered two runs on five hits, three walks and struck out four to earn the win in the circle.
In the Regional Championship Valley Falls squared off with McLouth for the third time this season and while this time it was a tighter ballgame the outcome was the same as the first two times as the Dragons won, claiming the 3-1 victory. Kearney continued to help lead the Dragons attack going 2-3 in the win with an RBI.
On the season the Dragon sophomore has been producing with regularity posting a .620 batting average with 30 RBI’s, seven home runs and a .687 OBP, while going 9-2 in the circle with a 2.19 ERA.
The Dragons carry a 19-4 record into the State tournament and are the four seed set to face the five seed Northern Heights in the first round in Pratt on Thursday. Kearney and the Dragons look to continue their strong year and put the final touches on a great season.
