Points a plenty of come for Valley Heights junior, Kayla Smith as she surpassed 1,000 career points earlier this season and behind her play and her teammates stepping up along with her the lady Mustangs of Valley Heights have won nine of the last 10 after a 2-7 start to the year.
The Mustangs ran past Wetmore at home last week picking up the 59-26 and Smith paced the way as she was clicking on all cylinders posting a season best 35 points, her second 30-plus performance of the season. Valley Heights finished up last week by snagging a 59-55 win over Axtell and Kayla tallied 29 points in the come from behind win.
On the year Smith has lead the Mustangs with 18 points per game, while filling in the stat sheet in many other ways by averaging 3.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists and two steals per game. The junior has 10-straight games with double figures and has netted double digits in 16 of the teams 19 games this season. Smith suprassed 1,000 points in her career against Mission Valley with a 22 point performance in that win.
The Mustangs sit at 11-8 on the season and are riding a strong wave of momentum from the second half of the season with great team basketball and Smith is helping lead the way for Valley Heights to close out the regular season strong and gear up for the postseason.
