Maur Hill-Mount Academy Swim Team

Teams are always eager to get their season rolling in any sport and the Maur Hill-Mount Academy swim team was just like that come the first meet of the season and the Ravens showed out big in the first meet of the year winning the Washington meet.
The hard work displayed by the full roster of the Ravens swim team paid off in the first meet of the season as many of the swimmers compete on YMCA team, while the team also had to battle the fact they had to drive to Platte City YMCA to practice to lead up to the first meet of the year.
At the Washington meet with 20 swimmers competing Maur Hill-Mount Academy took first place beating out St. James who took second with 40 swimmers in action. Leading the way for the Raven swimmers were five first place finishes in events, while five second place finishes were also earned. Lexi Griffin posted a time of 1:35.73 to win the 100-yard breaststroke, while Echo Growney won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 34.39 and Mallory Panchot took first in the 100-yard fly notching a time of 1:34.07. Ravens also took first in the 400-yard and 200-yard free relays behind times of 5:20.71 and 2:23.84, respectively. Griffin and Growney teamed up with McKenzi Bell and Haylie Folsom to win the 400, while Rachel Olberding, Kylee Stec, Caeli Haigh and Lora Waters teamed up to win the 200.
Five silver medal performances came in the 200-yard medley relay, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard fly, 100-yard free and 500-yard free. The team of Griffin, Growney, Folsom and Maggie Burcham took second in the medley relay, while Stec earned second in the 200 freestyle, Panchot snagged second 100 fly, Bell took second in the 100 fly and 500 free and Folsom placed second in the 100 free.
Several other top performances were had by Maur Hill-Mount Academy as the team of Stec, Yolanda Guo, Casey Elias and Waters took third in the 200-yard medley relay, while Griffin finished third in the 200-yard individual medley, Burcham placed third in the 50-yard freestyle and Folsom finished third in the 100-yard backstroke. Stec and Haigh added fourth and fifth place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke, respectively, while the team of Elias, Lauren Wheeler, Evie Huber-Ramsey and Tracy Tai took sixth in the 200-yard free relay.
The Maur Hill-Mount Academy swim team coached by Kelly Elias looks to take the momentum from the first competition of the season and propelled it into more success this season.
