The Thunderbirds of Johnson County Central have enjoyed a great season on the hardwood thus far and have propelled themselves to a 12-1 record but went into the MUDECAS tournament last week facing stiff competition and were seeded as the number four seed in the bracket but walked away as the Division "A" tournament champs.
Johnson County Central played three tight ballgames and had plenty of key performances but one stood above the rest and that was the play senior, Nate Kuhl who registered 69 points in the three games in the tournament.
Kuhl burst onto the scene of the MUDECAS Tournament in impressive fashion pouring in 27 points in a 45-41 win over Bruning-Davenport-Shickley in the opening round match. The points allow is an impressive night but add to that he was 15-16 from the free throw line and chipped in three assists and three blocks for good measure on the night.
The Thunderbirds then faced off against the number one seed Freeman squad in the semifinals and guess who made his presence felt again, it was Nate. Kuhl this time put up a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds, plus threw in four blocks in the 48-46 win for JCC.
With back-to-back stellar performances for JCC, the Thunderbirds and Kuhl's tournament wasn't over as they saddled up to take on a tough Pawnee City squad in the championship. Nate for the third straight game reached the 20 plus point plateau with 22 points, hitting 8-9 free throws on the evening as JCC earned the 59-42 win to capture the tournament crown.
The senior, Nate Kuhl was exceptional on the hardwood over the three games during the MUDECAS tournament and as been a key cog for JCC this season thus as they are off to a 12-1 record and look to continue that momentum.
