There is about only a few words that can really describe Jeff West Tiger junior, Justin Scott’s run at the state tournament and this season and those would be pure dominance. Scott went into the state tournament as a repeat Regional champion and an unblemished 35-0 record, which he improved to 39-0 with a 4-0 run at state to win the Class 4A 220lbs state title.
Scott opened up the first round at state and was down in the blink of an eye as he earned a pinfall victory in a blistering time of 17 seconds. Second round would prove to be much different as Scott continued to dispatch his opponents with relative ease as he registered a pinfall win in just 45 seconds, ending the first day of competition 2-0.
Head into the semifinals Justin had preserved his unbeaten record and had his sights set on a return trip to the state championship bout and that he would earn as he pinned his opponent for the third straight match, this time in a 1:31. To the finals he went and this time he wanted the state title and he earned it with this fourth pinfall win at state this time in a 1:34.
Last year was a solid season for Justin finishing as state runner-up and with a 35-3 record but this year he topped himself finishing as the state champion at 220lbs with a 39-0 season.
The state title caps off a great storybook season for the Scott he highlighted the year by sheer dominant on the mat winning the Big Seven League title, Mission Valley, Pleasant Ridge, Herington, St. Mary’s, KC Piper and Atchison Flurry tournaments, plus repeating as the Regional champion.
