The 2019 high school football season has been full of surprises through the first five weeks of the season but maybe none bigger than the Riverside Cyclones who are off to a 4-1 start with already a marque win this season which came in a week four upset of Maur Hill-Mount Academy. The Cyclones have already doubled their win total from each of the past two years.
A big reason to the success of the Cyclones this season has been the play of sophomore quarterback Kobe Davis who delivered a huge performance in Riverside’s 51-12 win over ACCHS last Friday night, avoiding a let down road performance after the marquee last second comeback win in Atchison.
The first-year signal caller threw five touchdown passes in the first quarter and racked up 291 yards and six total touchdowns in the win on just 13 completions and added 74 yards on the ground.
On the season Davis has thrown for 975 yards and 12 touchdowns and has added 198 yards on the ground with three more scores.
In the Cyclones 28-27 upset win over Maur Hill-Mount Academy in week four Davis threw for 182 yards and two touchdowns, while he also ran for 71 yards and a score.
It’s been an exciting so far to say the least for Riverside under first-year head coach Bryce Paden and with Davis under center the Cyclones will look to continue the strong start Friday night with a tough Big 7 League hone game against Nemaha Central with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
