It’s been an up-and-down start to the season for the Doniphan West girls’ basketball team as the Mustangs are off to a 4-3 record.
The one constant with the Mustangs this season has been the play of senior Makinley Smith who poured in 30 points in Doniphan West’s 53-49 win over Washington County Friday night.
It marked her highest scoring output of the year after scoring 22 points in the Mustangs third game of the year in a win over Riverside.
Smith is currently averaging 18 points per game and has scored over 15 points in the Mustangs last three games.
She was named a first team all-Twin Valley League selection a year ago and was named a second-team selection in her sophomore season.
Smith and the Mustangs will look to continue their recent success into the second half of the season and make a strong push in the Twin Valley League tournament coming up in a few short weeks.
