In high school sports and sports in general you may always not always have your best players so for teams to be successful it takes other players to step up and pick up the slack lost.
For the Sabetha girls’ basketball team, it has been junior Leah Renyer who has stepped up and picked up the slack lost with the injury to leading scorer and senior point guard Melinna Schumann leading the Lady Jays to two wins last week.
In Sabetha’s three games in the absence of Schumann, Renyer has averaged 14.7 points per game to go along with 5.3 rebounds and 2.7 steals.
On the season, she is averaging 8.4 points per game and is consistently a leader on the defensive end of the floor and in hustle statistics.
The Lady Jays are 17-2 on the season including a 11-2 mark in Big 7 League play with just one game remaining in the regular season.
Renyer will look to lead the Lady Jays to an upset of 3A No. 1 Nemaha Central Tuesday night as Sabetha gears up to make a deep playoff run in the Hiawatha Sub-State coming up next week.
