ACCHS' Tannah Forbes Earns Fifth at First Ever Girl's State Wrestling
Tannah Forbes

For the first time ever the Kansas State High School Activities Association hosted the girl’s state wrestling championships last week in Salina and six area girls earned the opportunity to compete in the inaugural event.

Of the six competitors three of them placed including ACCHS’ Tannah Forbes who claimed fifth place in the 191-pound weight with a solid 2-1 day in the tournament.

She opened with a bye in the first round and then picked up a pin in the quarterfinals before falling by major decision in the semifinals.

She followed that up with a pin the fifth-place match and finished with a record of 10-8 on the year.

Forbes got to the state meet by claiming second place at the East regional meet where she went 4-1 on the day with all four wins via pin while her lone loss in the championship match came by an 11-5 decision.

Last season she finished second at the girl’s state wrestling championship at 170 pounds which was the final tournament not sanctioned by KSHSAA.

She dealt with adversity all season long and had to battle back after dislocating joints and ligaments in her ankle when she was cheerleading earlier this year.

Forbes wasn’t expected to even be able to compete this season but worked hard and delivered the first state wrestling medal for the ACCHS Tiger program.

Forbes, a junior, will now look to work even harder in the offseason and look to end her career with a state wrestling title next season.
