Hanover Boys Roll to Seventh State Basketball Title
Hanover Boys Basketball

Year after year the Hanover basketball programs produce strong seasons and more often than not, state championships.

This year was no different for the Wildcat boys who ran through the Class 1A-DII state tournament to claim the school’s seventh boys’ basketball championship with a pair of dominant wins at Barton Community College.

In the semifinals of the tournament the Wildcats rolled to an 85-58 victory over Northern Valley forcing 22 turnovers while getting out to a 13-0 start.

The Cats would eventually push their lead to 17 points at halftime with Northern Valley shooting just 5-of-21 from 3-point land in the first half but the second half was more of the same and Hanover rolled the rest of the way.

Four players finished in double figures for the Cats including Blake Hynek who had 24 points and 11 rebounds while Emmitt Jueneman added 22 points and six steals. Jacob Jueneman chipped in 15 points while Keagan Dimler added 13 points and seven assists.

That pushed the Cats into their seventh championship game against Elyria Christian and after another fast start Hanover rolled to 52-40 victory.

The Cats raced out to a 16-4 lead and never looked back holding that lead throughout before shooting 8-of-13 from the free throw line down the stretch to seal the win.

Hanover was led by Keagan Dimler who scored 18 points on three 3-pointers while Jacob Jueneman added 11 points and 9 rebounds and Blake Hynek 10 points.

The Cats wrap up the 2020-21 season with a near perfect 24-1 record and a Class 1A-II State Championship.
