Andrae McGaughy
|
It's been a whirlwind start to the season for the Riverside Cyclones who have blown by their opponents by an average of 29.2 points per game this season, allowing only one opponent to score double figures this season, propelling them to a 5-0 start this year.
A guy that has been at forefront of the success has been the maestro of the offense for the Cyclones that would be the junior, Andrae McGaughy. Andrae has posted great numbers quite often this season and with the help of his teammates been able to help the Cyclones click early this season and find success.
Last Friday it was McGaughy and company routing the ACCHS Tigers 54-7 for their fifth win of the season and it was the arm and legs of Andrae doing damage against the Tigers all night. In the air the junior was quite efficient connecting on six of his eight passes for 191 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while running the ball for 118 yards on just nine carries, three of which were for touchdowns.
Andrae's presence while most notably felt on the offensive side of the ball has made plenty of plays on defense, too including an picking off a ACCHS pass, last Friday in the win.
On the season McGaughy has been able to put up balanced numbers in the passing and ground game individually as he's thrown for 517 yards on 38-63 passing (60.3% completion %) and four touchdowns, while running for 474 yards on 70 carries and 11 touchdowns. While on defense McGaughy has accounted for four interceptions.
The duel threat that McGaughy brings at the quarterback position and the exceptional play of his teammates around him has propelled the Cyclones to another solid start this season like last year when they opened the year 6-0, but went 1-2 in districts and missed the playoffs. Riverside looks to keep that momentum this week against Onaga and then translate it to district play this season to earn themselves a playoff spot in Class 3A.
