For the second time this season, Holton took advantage of three short fields and jumped to a 20-0 first quarter lead. This time in the week four district opener the Wildcats held on to defeat Perry Lecompton 33-14. Holton ran the ball 68 times for all 306 of their total yards improving to 2-2 on the season.

Perry Lecompton was plagued by three turnovers in the game as well as 12 penalties for 95 yards. The Kaws also struggled in the passing game completing just 6 of 19 passes for 96 yards with over half their 250 total yards of offense coming on two plays. A Bronzen Rush 68-yard touchdown run was the only score of the second quarter and pulled the Kaws within 20-6 at halftime, but they only picked up two more first downs over their next four possessions.

Holton’s Bodie Dillon returned the opening kickoff more than 60 yards to set up a Kyler Jackson four-yard TD run to open the scoring and then after forcing a three-and-out, Wildcat senior Owen Clayton blocked a Perry punt to set up another short 26-yard field. Dillon would score on a one-yard TD and then following a Korban Wilson defensive interception, Dillon took the next Wildcat offensive play for a 38-yard score to make it 20-0 with 3:48 still remaining in the first quarter.

After forcing a punt to start the second half, Holton’s best drive of the night covered 74 yards in 15 plays and was capped by a Andrew Shupe touchdown run to make it 27-6 entering the fourth quarter. The Wildcats added another score after Andrew Keithley tackled the Perry punter to give Holton another short field and two-play touchdown drive with a Cael Frazier TD run.

Holton, who will play at Jeff West  (0-4) next week, was balanced again in the backfield led by Kyler Jackson with 100 yards on 21 carries. Frazier had 69 yards on 14 totes while Shupe turned his 14 carries into 58 yards and Dillon added 65 yards rushing. Holton had zero turnovers and only five penalties in winning their second straight game. The Wildcat defense also had some big plays including a strip sack and fumble recovery play by Landon Hernandez in the second period and a Caleb Chermock fumble recovery early in the fourth frame.

Perry played their second straight game without Garrett Metcalfe at quarterback and got 63 of their 96 total passing yards on a pass from Tristan Gorden to Eli Dean. Rush finished with 88 yards rushing including his 68-yard score while Koltyn Kaniper added 34 yards while Gorden ran for 20 as the Kaws dropped to 1-3 on the season and play their final non-district game at home next week against Royal Valley.
